The Seven Principles Which Guide South Africa's Foreign Policy

1. A belief in, and preoccupation with, Human Rights which extends beyond the political, embracing the economic, social and environmental

Translated, "We use Human Rights, and the environment as issues to channel money in our direction."

2. A belief that just and lasting solutions to the problems of human kind can only come through the promotion of Democracy, worldwide;

Translated, "We only believe in ourselves, the international community, to rule the world."

3. A belief that Justice and International Law should guide the relations between nations;

Translated, "Only the international community is fit to dispense justice to the world."

4. A belief that international peace is the goal to which all nations should strive. Where this breaks down, internationally- agreed peaceful mechanisms to solve conflicts should be resorted to;

Translated, "Only mechanisms instituted by the international community will be used to resolve conflicts."

5. A belief that our foreign policy should reflect the interests of the continent of Africa;

Translated, "We believe in the interests of Africa above those of the people of South Africa."

6. A belief that South Africa’s economic development depends on growing regional and international economic cooperation in an independent world;

Translated, "We believe that global economy will carry our best interests at heart."

7. A belief that our foreign relations must mirror our deep commitment to the consolidation of a democratic South Africa.

Translated, "We believe that democracy must eventually be on a global level, one person one vote internationally."

Quoting further from South Africa's foreign policy charter:

"We are conscious, however, that new demands on the ideal of democracy have recently emerged. In part, they arise from an apparent rediscovery of self-determination which, in some cases, undercuts the sovereignty of established nation-states."

Translated, "Self-determination is in conflict with a one world government."

"We share the perspective of the Palme Commission on Disarmament"

Translated, "Serfs cannot carry weapons."
